So recently (well the end of last year) I had my family picture taken. It had been forever since we had a family portrait and I hate to admit that completely. I hired my fellow friend and photographer Stephanie to take care of that for us and I have to say I am very pleased with the results. I am the typical worst case scenario. She gave me the images for digital download and I have yet to have them printed. There is always an excuse for not getting them printed but none of them are good enough to explain. Excuses are not rare in my family. I am the exact opposite of what I want for my clients! So today I thought I would take the time to talk about how we can decorate our houses with family portraits.
1. Wall portraits
The most basic thing for me is the idea that wall portraits are a tradition. They are the foundation of any home. All families must have that really large portrait of their family or their kids in the hallway or above the fireplace right? Ideally yes, but if you don’t have that then at least have these…
Albums that have snapshots of your life are so important. They are the foundation of your memories. They tell the story of your life. They could be a specific vacation or a specific year. But whatever you do- keep those prints and really decide to display them on the tables and the bookshelves. Wherever you have free space- albums are never lost there.
3. Framed Snapshots
Just as important as those albums are, the snapshots that are your favorites are important for displaying too. Albums don’t get looked at that much unless reminiscence is on the mind. However, printed snapshots that are framed and displayed in the house are seen all the time.
Bottom line is that showing that your everyday life is important enough for displaying is enough to move mountains. It helps with self-esteem and many other things. It shows kids that they are loved and that you care enough about their daily life to display it. Did they earn a medal for a swimming competition or a trophy for participating in baseball this season? Display pictures with confidence and love and you will see the outward effects are much more visible in the end. Happiness is always the end goal.
